Fresh Mamata missive for Modi

Birbhum (West Bengal): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prove that she took money selling her paintings.

The TMC chief’s strong reaction came Wednesday, after BJP president Amit Shah alleged Tuesday that Banerjee’s paintings were bought by chit fund owners for crores of rupees.

Addressing a public meeting here, Banerjee said the BJP leaders have no courtesy and her party has initiated defamation proceedings ‘over the baseless allegation’.

“Modi Babu (PM), I challenge you to prove that I have taken a single penny (for selling the paintings) in my account. You talk like a barbarian and have no courtesy,” Banerjee said while addressing a huge gathering.

Shah had alleged that the TMC acquired funds after owners of various chit fund companies had paid crore of rupees to buy paintings made by Banerjee. He had also said that once the BJP comes to power, all these offenders would be brought to book.

Meanwhile in another development, the state unit of the BJP has decided to lodge a complaint with the Election Commission about the clashes that broke out Tuesday between its workers and the TMC following Shah’s rally.

The police have so far arrested 11 persons for their alleged involvement in the violence. “We will inform the Election commission about the clashes that took place yesterday (Tuesday). We will portray the real picture of the ground situation that prevails in Bengal,” BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said, Wednesday.
