Bhubaneswar: The lack of required information makes life difficult for the elderly in the state. Now, the state government is said to be working on an app to bring all available sources of information for senior citizens.
The SSEPD department, the nodal agency in the state which handles the welfare of the senior citizens, is said to be working on this.
“We are working on a project to make a mobile app for the senior citizens where they can get all required information. Through the app, the beneficiaries can access information about the rights they enjoy, the laws which safeguard their rights, their resource centres and centres from which they can get government assistance,” said Bhaskar Sarma, Secretary of the department.
The secretary said that his team is now working hard to bring such a solution to put an end to the issues faced by the senior citizens. Often, due to lack of information on the popular schemes, the senior citizens are left in the dark about government services meant for the elderly. This app is likely to streamline all services and is expected to connect the government with the senior citizens.
The government has also planned a one-of-its-kind “Futuristic Day Care Centre”. The centre which is expected to come up at the heart of the city— most likely at Bhawani Mall in Sahid Nagar— is likely to cater to the needs of the senior citizens and ensure recreational activities for them. “This centre will be first of its kind in the state. This will have day care facilities, a library, diagnostic facilities, indoor game facilities and many other modern recreational activities and infrastructure to allow them enjoy their silver years. The centre is expected to open soon,” Sarma added.
