Malkangiri: Violence erupted between police personnel and the locals in MV-23 village of Malkangiri district following a raid on a gambling base Monday night.
Reportedly, the cops have arrested 21 persons for their alleged involvement in the illegal activity and the scuffle with the personnel.
According to sources, following a tip-off about the activity, police raided the Jagadhatrimela in the village. Spotting the cops, a group of villagers confronted them in a bid to stop the raid.
The villagers allegedly pelted stones and indulged with a scuffle with the cops. However, police managed to control the unruly mob and arrested at least 21 gamblers from the den.
While a case has been registered against the arrested gamblers, an investigation is underway, said the police.
