Berhampur: Ganjam district town police late Thursday night busted a gambling den and arrested 15 gamblers including two ex-corporators of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) from a house at Bhimaraopeta area.
All the accused were produced in a local court Friday.
Berhampur sub divisional police officer (SDPO) Bishnu Prasad Pati informed that the den had been running from Bhimraopeta for a long period. The police were tipped off about it subsequently.
A plan was chalked out to nab the culprits and a team led by town police station inspector-in-charge Suresh Kumar Tripathy conducted the raid and arrested the gamblers. Later it was known that two former corporators of BeMC were among the arrested 15 gamblers.
Rs 7,68,710 in cash, 16 mobile phones, five motorcycles, bear bottles and articles used for running the den were also seized from the spot.
The cops further informed that the den was running with the support of a policeman. Further investigation into the issue is on, it was learnt.
