Kukudakhandi: Sadar police under Berhampur police district in Ganjam Saturday busted a gambling den and arrested 11 gamblers including a juvenile.
While 10 of them were forwarded to court, the minor in the group was sent to a house of correction in Berhampur after being produced before the juvenile justice board.
A source in the police said, the cops were tipped off about a gambling den running at a house in Lochapada area Friday night. A team was formed comprising of officers and policemen from Sadar police station and Nimakhandi police station and the joint team conducted a raid on the house at about midnight Saturday.
Taking advantage of darkness, the gamblers attacked the police. One of them bit second officer of Sadar police station Bibhuti Bhushan Sethy’s hand. However, eleven gamblers were arrested.
Police identified the gamblers as Mahendra Sahu (24), Ganesh Sahu (35), Brundaban Behera (34), Deepak Sahu (25), Manoj Kumar Sahu (36), Shreehari Patra (26), Hina Sahu (25), Muralidhar Sahu (30), Kuna Sethy (21) and Santosh Pradhan (27). Rs 8,770 in cash, five lathis, six boulders and seven mobile phones were seized from the spot.
