BHUBANESWAR: A group of video gamers fought it out at Nutmeg 1.0, a gaming event, organised by D-Gamerz Sony Centre here recently.
Gamerz is a startup that was brought to life in 2017. The group specialises in e-sports events and look forward to developing a better community of gamers through tournaments and gatherings. They claim to be the pioneering firm for esports events in Odisha with around 20+ tournaments of various games under their belt.
Gamerz also has tie-ups with several colleges like KIIT, ITER, IIIT Bhubaneswar and VSSUT Burla among others. Currently, the group conducts gaming events. It has its own gaming café equipped with high end gaming PC and Sony Play Station 4 in Patia. The prize pool for the event was Rs 10,000 including cash and goodies.
Esports is the new medium of video gaming tournaments. It portrays the competitive side of pc and console gaming. Gamers who pursue this field are known as esports athletes and are slowly gaining recognition as mainstream athletes.
The game which was played at the tournament was FIFA 19 and was played on PS4. FIFA 19 is a soccer simulation video game developed by EA Vancouver as part of Electronic Arts’ FIFA series. 30 participants braved the sun to come and play.
Abhishek Patnaik bagged the first prize. He was the first to clear all qualifying rounds and reach the finals. He went on to beat Navtej Singh, the second finalist in a best of one match.
