New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Sambalpur Nitesh Gangadeb, Thursday, urged the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development to declare the Sambalpur University as a Central University.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha during the Zero Hour, the BJP MP said students from various parts of the state and from Chhattisgarh come to Sambalpur University to pursue higher education. He said the university needs new centres of studies like Centre for South Asia, Centre for East Asia, Centre for America and the like.
“The Sambalpur University is located in western Odisha and has been imparting education to students of Odisha as well as adjoining states. It has completed more than 50 years of its glorious existence and is becoming the torch bearer of the higher education sector in western Odisha. A large number of tribal students and students of coastal and southern Odisha are pursuing their higher education dreams in the University,” said Gangadeb.
He informed the House that specialised faculty and infrastructure are required to enhance the standard of the university.
“In order to be at par with the international standards, faculty of specialised areas and infrastructure is required. I urge the Ministry of HRD to declare Sambalpur University as Central University during the current academic year and this would be the true gift to the people of Sambalpur in particular and western Odisha in general,” said Gangadeb.
