Ganja plants worth Rs 25 crore destroyed

R Udayagiri: Excise and police officials in a joint raid destroyed illegal ganja cultivations worth Rs 25 crore and set them on fire in villages under R Udayagiri police limits in Gajapati district Tuesday.

The officials cut down over 3.10 lakh ganja plants during the raid spanning over six hours in Buripadar, Sundardanga and Parimal villages. However, the raiding party failed to make any arrests.

R Udayagiri tehsildar Smruti Ranjan Satapathy officiated as the magistrate in the raid led by sub-divisional police officer Anil Kumar Pradhan, IIC Gopinath Pradhan and involving forest, revenue, excise and police personnel.
