Jaleswar: In a major haul, the Excise Department Sunday seized over one quintal of ganja and arrested a man and his son from Jamalpur village in Jaleswar area of Balasore district in this connection.
The value of the seized narcotics in grey market is expected to be around Rs 7 lakh.
The Excise Department was tipped off that a huge consignment of cannabis was being smuggled from Jamalpur village to a place outside Odisha. The department swung into action and raided the house. Following the search operation, the contraband was seized and the father-son duo was arrested. They are suspected to be residents of Sasan Board area in Jaleswar town.
Jaleswar town is fast transforming into a hub of drug smugglers. Last month, Jaleswar police had seized brown sugar worth around Rs 2.5 crore and arrested three persons including two women October 19 night. Besides, Excise department and police had carried out raids at three separate locations September 30 and seized huge quantity of brown sugar and arrested five persons for their involvement.
