Koraput: Koraput police Wednesday seized cannabis worth Rs 80 lakh at Hanumal village in the district while they were being smuggled to Chhattisgarh.
However, two accused who were allegedly involved in this illegal smuggling activity managed to flee from the spot.
Sources said the BSF and police personnel of 10th battalion were patrolling at a MVCP (mobile vehicle check post) near Hanumal village, Wednesday morning. They then noticed a pick-up van trying to cross the check-post in a hurry. Suspecting something fishy, the cops followed the vehicle.
After getting a sniff of police action, the two accused (driver and helper) escaped from the spot after parking the vehicle on the road-side.
The officials reached at the spot and recovered 169 packets of ganja weighing more than 800 kg, a country gun and two rounds of bullets during the search operation, informed Nandpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sanjay Kumar Mahapatra.
The police are now trying to nab the two accused. Further investigation in connection with the matter is underway by Machkund Police.
