Sheragada: In a shocking incident, a woman and her minor twin sons were killed while her mother-in-law was left battling for life after the former’s husband allegedly spiked their dinner with poison Sunday night at Sriramnagar here in Ganjam district.
The deceased were identified as Sabitri Kumari Behera and her five-year-old twins Shibesh Dakua and Pritish Dakua in the area. Sabitri’s mother-in-law Urmila Dakua is currently undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Police registered a murder case and arrested the accused husband Prasant Dakua in this connection, Monday.
Police said Sabitri was working as an assistant teacher at Mahatma Gandhi High School and had been staying at a rented house at Sriramnagar in Sheragada with her family members for long.
Reports said, all the family members went to sleep after dinner, Sunday night, however, all except Prasant vomited and fell sick at night. He admitted all of them at Sheragada hospital in an unconscious condition, Monday morning.
There the doctors pronounced Sabitri and her two sons dead on arrival and shifted the elderly woman in critical condition to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Sheragada SDPO Uma Shankar Singh, and SI Satyajit Benia rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. Sabitri’s brother Dillip Behera reached the Sheragada police station in the afternoon and lodged a murder complaint in the presence of SP Jagmohan Meena in the police station.
In his complaint, Dillip has alleged that his brother-in-law Prasant was physically and mentally torturing her sister and his sister and nephews were killed by poisoning their food during dinner. Police registered a murder case and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
The actual reason behind the deaths can be ascertained only after the post-mortem report is available, the SI said.
