Berhampur: Miscreants duped a young man of over Rs 1.2 lakh on pretext of providing him a job at an airport. The matter came to fore Saturday after the victim met Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra and informed him the entire episode.
Gupteshwar Pradhan, a resident of Panchama village under Golanthara police limits, received a phone call June 7. The caller introduced himself as a manager of an airport. The caller asked Gupteshwar to send his identity proof and educational qualification certificates if he wanted to get a job at the airport.
Taking the bait, Gupteshwar followed through. He sent all the asked documents to the address the caller had given. Two days later, the same caller called him informing that he had been selected for the job. He went on to ask him to send Rs 2,500 for document verification process.
An elated Gupteshwar sent the asked money. After a gap of some days, the caller again contacted Gupteshwar asking him to send more money for the purpose of security, uniform, training among others.
Not being able to realise that he had already been caught in the net of swindler’s hook, line and sinker, Gupteshwar sent about Rs1,23,000 in phases. In the following days, all his efforts to contact the caller went in vain.
Gupteshwar with the help of advocate Pradeep Behera met the SP Saturday and pleaded with him to get him justice. The SP has directed concerned officials to probe the matter.
