Ganjam police bust two dacoit gangs, 12 arrested

Berhampur:  Ganjam police Wednesday night busted two major dacoit gangs and arrested as many as 12 men in connection with several incidents of dacoity, a top police official of the district said Thursday.

According to Ganjam SP Brijesh Ray, the miscreants were arrested from Aska and Buguda police limits. A huge cache of arms and ammunitions including four firearms, 12 bullets, 12 bombs, a toy gun, five motorcycles and Rs 58,000 in cash were seized from their possession.

While six of them were arrested from Dasnapalli rest share near Aska-Balipadar road by Aska police patrolling staff, the other six were arrested from Hanuman mutt near Buddhakhol hills by Buguda police. They were caught while laying trap for their victims.

The dacoits were active in Ganjam, Khurdha and Nayagarh districts. They often targeted agents of finance companies and small business owners carrying cash, the SP said.

“Several cases including robbery, dacoity and attempt to murder are pending against them at various police stations. They are being probed and further search operation is on to arrest other members of these gangs,” SP Ray added.
