Ganjam school classroom used for making bricks

Ganjam: A school, which was meant to shape careers of students, has been reduced to being used for construction of bricks. The bizarre incident has been reported from Upra Primary School at Suryanarayanpur under Palibandha panchayat in Ganjam district.

The sorry state of affairs was confirmed by an inspection team comprising the Block Education Officer (BEO), Revenue Inspector (RI) and Revenue Supervisor during a visit to the village.
The team paid a visit to the school Tuesday to conduct an inquiry following a written complaint by the villagers to the District Collector and District Education Officer in this regard October 27.

According to reports, cement bricks are being constructed in a classroom of the school over past many days. Shockingly, the work is being done in the knowledge of the teachers.

The DEO has directed the Block Education Officer (BEO) to initiate an inquiry into the matter and submit a report. Moreover, the Collector also ordered the local Tehsildar to carry out an investigation over the allegation.

A team comprising the BEO, Revenue Inspector (RI) and revenue supervisor visited the school and started an inquiry Tuesday. After their visit, the officials admitted that the allegations made by the villager are true.

“A report in this regard will be submitted to the DEO. The allegations were found true. Action will be taken accordingly,” informed the Tehsildar.

The school has two classrooms and as many teachers. When the school’s headmaster Prashant Kumar Choudhury was asked about the construction of bricks inside a classroom, he said bricks are being constructed after the school hours.
