Ganjam: In yet another case of alleged medical negligence, a young businessman of Ganjam who tested COVID positive died while undergoing treatment at Tata COVID hospital Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Laxinarayan Patra, known by his nickname Nahana.  He was also a social activist.

Patra’s family members, however, alleged that his death took place as a result of medical negligence.

According to their allegation, Nahana had tested positive for the deadly virus a week ago. He was immediately shifted to Tata COVID hospital. Realising that Nahana’s treatment was not up to the mark, they had requested the hospital authorities to allow them to take their patient to Bhubaneswar. But the hospital authorities paid no heed to them.

They were shocked to get the news of his death Saturday morning. While they are yet to come to terms with the reality, they hold the hospital administration responsible instead of the virus for Nahana’s unexpected death.

The owner of Digapahandi bus stand area’s oldest medicine store also succumbed to the virus Saturday. Seemanchal Sahu, the owner, had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment.

Odisha Assembly speaker cum Digapahandi MLA Surjya Narayan Patro expressed condolences over the demise of Sahu.

As a token of condolence with the aggrieved family, all the other chemist stores also downed their shutters.
