Balasore: Despite launch of awareness campaigns, there’s no let-up in atrocities on women in Odisha. One more girl has fallen victim to the most-heinous act of acid attack Sunday at the end of a suspected love affair.
Police said she received severe burn injuries after two-bike borne youths hurled acid on her near Sobharampur area, close to Sahadevkhunta in this district.
The girl was riding a scooter on her way to the market when the two intercepted her. When she stopped the vehicle, the two threw acid on her and rode away. The girl received severe burn injuries on her face and hand and fell off the vehicle.
Passers-by rushed her to the district hospital in Balasore. She was later shifted to the SCB in Cuttack as her condition deteriorated. Doctors said the girl was put under medical observation.
Police and locals suspect a love affair-related enmity led to the inhuman act.
