Jatni: The body of a girl was found hanging inside her hostel room in Taraboi area under Jatni police limits in Khurda district, a source said Monday.
The deceased was identified as Sara Sampurna Mohanty from Kandalpur village of Kakatpur tehsil in Puri district. She was a second-year IT diploma student at a private engineering school in Jatni.
Police have recovered the body and sent it to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for post-mortem.
The Principal of the engineering college said that he admitted the girl to a hospital in Khurda on being informed. However, she died while receiving medical care at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the father of the deceased termed his daughter’s death as murder.
“I spoke to my daughter and her roommate yesterday. My daughter also spoke with us this morning. I rushed to the hospital after receiving information from Sara’s maternal uncle in the afternoon. There are five spots on her neck apart from marks on her legs which make us believe that she was murdered,” the girl’s father Sandip Mohanty said.
Mohanty added that he spoke to Sara’s roommate who claimed to have been outside the hostel at the time of incident.
