Rourkela: A 25-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze in front of the house of her lover who is reported to have “declined to marry her”.
The incident was reported from Sector-B under Bondamunda police limits here Friday. However, the victim’s parents alleged the girl’s lover and his family members set her afire.
The deceased has been identified as Asha Nayak of Sector-A here.
According to sources, Asha had been dating Amit Yadav of Sector-B for the past five years and she wanted to marry the youth. But, the youth’s refusal to marry her put her under great stress.
Left with no option, the girl had been on a ‘sit-in’ before the boy’s house. Later, she allegedly doused kerosene before immolating herself. Her relatives who saw her getting charred in front of Amit’s house rushed her to the Railway Hospital at Bondamunda. After preliminary treatment, she was referred to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH). However, she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
The girl’s father alleged Asha had suspected Amit of betraying her. So, she forced him to marry her. However, Amit and his parents plotted to kill her by setting her afire.
Based on a complaint by the girl’s father, police registered a case and launched a probe. Meanwhile, the boy along with his family members is on the run.
