Bolangir: In a bizarre incident, a minor girl allegedly student sustained serious injuries after she attempted to commit suicide by jumping off from the terrace of her school after being reprimanded by her mother over some family issue Wednesday.
The incident was reported from a school at Titlagarh town in Bolangir district. The girl was rescued in a critical condition and admitted to a local hospital where her condition was stated to be critical. The girl has broken her spinal cord, medical authorities said.
After preliminary treatment, she was shifted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir, reports said.
According to reports, the Class VIII girl student of Saint Anne’s Convent School had gone to school as usual. Over some reason, her mother called to a teacher and asked him to hand over the phone to her daughter.
While speaking through the phone, the mother daughter duo broke out in an altercation over some family issue after which the girl’s mother scolded her.
Unable to bear the scolding of her mother, the girl went to the two-storied school building and jumped off, school sources said.
The bizarre incident became the talk of the town. Earlier, a boy had ended his life by hanging himself after his mother denied him new clothes in Boudh district.
