Kendrapara: The students of Kendrapara Autonomous College Tuesday staged a road blockade by burning tyres in front of their college on the Cuttack-Chandabali Road protesting against a private bus conductor who pushed out a Plus Two girl student of the college. The girl was travelling in the bus and she fell on to the ground.
The students demanded action against the conductor who allegedly pushed the girl down from the bus at Gogua Chowk as she was going to college.
They asked the district administration to ask the Private Bus Owners’ Association to allow students to board all buses plying on the Cuttack-Chandabali Road and NH-5(A) from all bus stops, police sources said.
The Kendrapara town police and Sadar police rushed to the spot to pacify the students. But the students demanded a written assurance.
Later, the Sub Collector of Kendrapara, Sanjay Kumar Mishra, rushed to the spot and held talks with the students.
Mishra gave a written assurance to the students that he would hold a meeting in the college conference hall with office bearers of the Private Bus Owners Association, the police, Principal and students representatives.
The Sub Collector assured steps would be taken after the meeting, and the students withdrew their protest.
