Chandahandi, Jan 6: In a shocking incident, a college girl here in Nabarangpur district was allegedly raped by her mother’s two paramours and later burnt to death by them late Monday night, as she had resisted their relationship.

The 17-year-old girl, a student of Plus Two Second Year (Science), had lost her father several years ago and was staying with her mother. The matter came to fore Tuesday after the girl’s cousin brother lodged a complaint in the local police station
alleging the involvement of her mother as well as revenue inspector Rabindra Hembram and a driver Rabindra Goud in her death. He alleged the trio had connived to kill the girl by setting her ablaze after she proved a stumbling block to their relationship.

Umerkote sub-divisional police officer Gopinath Manipatra, IIC Dev Kumar Gamango and other police officials rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem, besides detaining the trio for interrogation.

When contacted, the girl’s mother said she discovered the charred body of her daughter lying outside the house when she woke up to relieve herself at about 1 am. She raised an alarm following which neighbours came to the spot. She admitted that Hembram and Goud were sleeping at her house Monday night.

Neighbours, however, claimed the woman was having immoral relationship with Hembram and Goud for long. Hembram, a native of Mayurbhanj district, was earlier posted as revenue inspector in Chandahandi revenue circle when he fell in love with the girl’s mother and developed a relationship with her. He, however, continued coming to the place to spend nights with the woman even after being transferred to Sinsari in Umerkote block over two years ago, the complaint said. Goud also had an affair with the woman before Hembram came in. The woman’s daughter was opposed to her illicit relationship due to which the duo was constantly at loggerheads.
