Girl rescued after ‘forced’ marriage in Keonjhar

Anandapur: Anandapur Child Line Sunday rescued a minor girl, who was forcibly married to a minor boy after he put vermilion on her forehead.

The girl from a village in Mayurbhanj district had gone to her relative’s house at Baunsagad Badanal village near Anandapur in Keonjhar district last week.

According to reports, a 16-year-old boy of Baunsagad Badanal village forcibly dragged her on the village road and married her by putting vermilion on her head.

After being informed, her family members reached Baunsagad Badanal village but they failed to get back their daughter.

They with the help of an ASHA and Anganwadi worker sought the intervention of Anandapur Child Line.

Child Line’s Integrated Child Development Project Officer Anandapur Satyabhama Sethy informed the police about the incident.

Sunday Sethy, supervisor Chhabilata Jena, Anandapur Child Line member advocate Bhagirathy Das, Ananda Sahoo, Sasmita Mahanty reached the spot along with a police team and rescued the girl.

While the accused’s family claimed that the girl had come to their house on her own, the parents of the girl alleged that their daughter had been forced into the marriage.

Child Line member Bhagirathy Dash informed that the accused was absconding.

The girl would be produced before the District Child Welfare Committee, reports added.
