Girl rescued from dogs in Infocity

Bhubaneswar: In spite of awareness programmes being launched by the authorities to get rid of the deeply entrenched bias towards girl child, parents continue to abandon girls in their infancy.
In a bizarre incident, a nine-day-old girl child abandoned by relatives was rescued by locals while stray dogs were trying to devour it Sunday afternoon.
The incident took place near the office of a media house at Prasanti Vihar under the Infocity police station limits here. According to sources, a person who went to dump garbage in a bin near a field heard a new-born cry.
Subsequently, the man along with his wife went to the spot and picked the abandoned child from the bushes while some stray dogs were biting its legs. A mongoose was also seen attacking the girl’s face.
The couple then informed the police control room and later a PCR van rescued the girl and rushed her to a nearby hospital. The doctors, however, referred the girl to Capital Hospital from where she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack for further treatment.
Infocity police station IIC Bijayini Singh told Orissa POST that police personnel were rushed to the spot on receipt of information and shifted the girl to a private clinic and later to Capital Hospital. “We enquired about the identity of the girl in the slum nearby. But none could inform us anything about it. Someone from faraway might have dumped the girl here. She weighed about 3.5 kilograms,” Singh added.
