Lephripara (Sundargarh): A minor girl who was missing for the last 12 days from Lephripara area in Sundargarh district was rescued by the police from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, said Sundargarh SP, Saumya Mishra, at a presser Saturday.
Lephripara police arrested three middlemen, including a relative of the minor and a couple who sold the girl to an elderly man in UP for Rs 60,000. All the accused were produced in a court.
According to reports, Panchami Kanhar, a relative of the girl, Choudhury Pushpendra Singh and Bimala Choudhury had taken the minor to Muzaffarnagar on the assurance of providing her a job. However, the three sold her to an elderly man for Rs 60,000, the SP said.
A missing complaint was lodged by the girl’s family January 25 following which a police investigation was launched.
“We rescued the girl with the help of UP police. During counselling, the girl revealed that three persons were involved in selling her to the elderly man,” the SP added.
