Girl’s shoplifting video goes viral

Bhubaneswar: The video of a girl stealing gold jewellery from a small shop at Rajmahal Square near Capital police station has gone viral on social media. However, the police are yet to register a case though several hours have elapsed to the filing of a complaint by the shopkeeper.

As per the video, the girl wearing a pink dress reached the shop Subhalaxmi Jewelers Tuesday afternoon and asked the shop owner Manoranjan Swain to show some rings for her father. However, Manoranjan usually does not keep costly jewellery at the shop. So, he went to a nearby shop to bring the ring leaving the girl alone at the shop. He also asked the girl to look after the shop till he comes back.

The video also shows that the girl tried to open the cash box and showcase containing jewellery while pretending to be talking with someone over phone. However, she failed to unlock the showcase and put a gold earring in her monkey cap. All the activities of the girl were captured on the CCTV cameras installed inside the shop.

The girl did not buy any of the jewellery saying that they are not of her likes. Later, Manoranjan was shocked to find the earring missing. He also came to know later that the girl cunningly shoplifted two gold rings from the counter while he was busy showing her the other rings. The stolen items weighing around 200 grams are valued at more than Rs 1 lakh.

Meanwhile, police sources claimed that action will be taken after examining the CCTV footage.
