Global Covid-19 caseload tops 23.45 crore, over 47.9 lakh dead: Johns Hopkins data

Washington: The global coronavirus caseload has topped 23.45 crore, while the deaths have surged to more than 47.9 lakh and vaccinations soared to over 6.28 billion, according to Johns Hopkins University.

In its latest update on Sunday morning, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload, death toll and the total number of vaccine doses administered stood at 234,577,843, 4,796,500 and 6,282,822,928, respectively.

The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world’s highest number of cases and deaths at 43,658,910 and 700,959, according to the CSSE.

In terms of infections, India follows in the second place with 33,791,061 cases.

The other worst countries with over 3 million cases are Brazil (21,459,117), the UK (7,908,091), Russia (7,449,689), Turkey (7,181,500), France (7,116,415), Iran (5,611,700), Argentina (5,259,352), Spain (4,961,128), Colombia (4,960,641), Italy (4,679,067), Germany (4,255,543), Indonesia (4,218,142) and Mexico (3,671,611), the CSSE figures showed.

Nations with a death toll of over 100,000 are Brazil (597,723), India (448,573), Mexico (277,978), Russia (205,297), Peru (199,423), Indonesia (142,115), the UK (137,295), Italy (130,998), Iran (120,880), Colombia (126,372), France (117,578) and Argentina (115,239).
