Sundargarh/Lephripara: Miscreants shot dead a goat trader and decamped with Rs 9 lakh in his possession near a temple on Sundargarh-MCL road under Lephripara police limits in Sundargarh district, Thursday. The deceased was identified as Prabhat Nayak, a native of Talmunda village in Jharsuguda district, who was staying at Guitha village under Bhasma police limits in the district for the last few years. The incident occurred when Prabhat and two others were on their way on a motorcycle to Handipani haat in neighbouring Chhattisgarh to buy goats. They had reached the temple when three youths wearing helmets waylaid them by hitting their motorcycle. The three goat traders fell down along with the vehicle. The miscreants tried to snatch away the bag of money from them. Prabhat tried to run away with the bag when the miscreants fired at him. He collapsed and died on the spot after the bullet hit his chest. Lephripara police reached the spot and launched an investigation.
