Bhubaneswar: The officials of Air Intelligence Unit of Customs Monday seized 170.750 grams of gold worth around Rs 5 lakh at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here.
The market value of the seized gold was estimated at Rs 5,52,375, the Customs officials said in a statement.
According to reports, the officials intercepted a passenger after finding his activities suspicious. The accused, a resident of Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu, arrived in Bhubaneswar by an Air Asia flight AK-31 from Kuala Lumpur Sunday night.
On frisking his body, the officials recovered one piece of silver-coated gold bangle and two pieces of semi-cylindrical gold bars wrapped with black adhesive tapes and pink and white rubber straps from his rectum, the statement said.
