Bhubaneswar: Customs officials working at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here foiled Tuesday an attempt to smuggle gold illegally according to information made public, Wednesday. They seized seized 278.83 grams of white coloured gold rings worth Rs 9.08 lakh from two passengers.
According to information available one of the passengers from whom the gold was seized is from West Bengal while the other from Jharkhand. They had arrived from Bangkok via an Air Asia flight, Tuesday night.
Officials said that if the two would have managed to hoodwink the customs officials it would have been easy for them to decamp with the gold to their respective destinations. They would have used either train or bus routes to make a quick getaway.
