According to a survey, around 14% of India’s urban population is suffering from constipation. And the main reason behind is dehydration, improper diet, certain kind of self-medications, persistent medical conditions and above all stress.
Adopting a few home remedies can very effectively ease constipation:
Drink enough water: No other elixir is stronger than water. By staying hydrated one can overcome a number of illnesses, constipation being one of them. So, do stay hydrated and drink ample water or you could try some dose of carbonated (sparkling) water to help rehydrate and get things moving again.
Fiber: Soluble fiber helps maintain water in your stool so that it does not become hard. Bowel movements increases and makes them easier to pass. Having Oats lentils, flaxseeds and chia seeds is a great idea. Prunes are also rich in fiber and a natural laxative. Broccoli, spinach, figs and honey are also some of the common suggestions.
Exercise: Regular exercise reduce the amount of time it takes for stool to pass through the large intestine, it also acts as a stress reliever. There are variety of exercises that can help, and certain yoga poses that can be particularly effective at getting things moving. If you are constipated, then try going for regular walks.
Magnesium & vitamin C: Many people with constipation have a deficiency of magnesium. Taking moderate amounts of magnesium supplements can help relieve constipation. It is available over-the-counter.
