Rajgangpur: The general perception of men in khaki being not helpful, always strict and busy dealing with crime and criminals has changed – at least here at Rajgangpur area in Sundargarh district Sunday after an ASI arranged treatment for an abandoned patient.
The family members of one Dambaru Mukhi, a resident of Goshala Pada here and aged about 45, with wounds on his both legs due to some reasons, refused to take any care of him, forcing him to take shelter at the booking hall of Rajgangpur railway station.
Since long, he was rendered weak and incapable of movement. Thus, he had to go without food for days together. Worse still, his wounds being left untreated, became septic with pus oozing out.
The odour of the wounds was so foul and intense that passengers at the ticket counter had to stand in queues with handkerchief covering their nose. The deteriorating condition of Dambaru was been taken up with the railway authorities many a times, but to no avail.
It was when Dambaru had already assumed that his days were numbered Rajgangpur Governemnt Railway Police ASI Khageswar Roul appeared as an angel for him.
On hearing about Damburu’s condition, he along with some other staff visited Dambaru at the booking hall and gave him some food and drinking water.
He later arrived at the station with an ambulance and shifted him to Rajgangpur government hospital and made arrangements for his treatment. On the following day, his condition showed a marked improvement.
Family members of Dambaru expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the ASI. One of his relatives, who is now attending Dambaru at the hospital, said, “Dambaru had been left to die. If he is recuperating now and is able to breathe, it is only because of the ASI babu.”
