Goods train runs over 3 deer

Jagatsinghpur: Three deer were killed after a train ran over them near Dhalatangada forest under Raghunathpur police limits in this district late Sunday night.

The speeding goods train hit the animals while they were crossing the railway track. The train was heading towards Cuttack from Paradip.

On intimation, forest department officials reached the spot, sent the carcasses for post-mortem and launched investigation into the incident. Such cases have been increasing in the state due to lack of proper coordination between the railways and the forest department.

A female elephant was killed after being hit by a freight train near Barada level crossing under Sadar police limits in Dhenkanal district February 1.
