Bhubaneswar: Sacked assistant sub-inspector of police, Gopal Das, who is the main accused in the murder of former Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das had twice submitted his fitness certificate regarding his treatment for psychiatric disorder. The certificates were submitted way before he allegedly shot Naba at Brajarajnagar, January 29. This information was given Monday by Minister of State for Home, Tusharkanti Behera in the Odisha Assembly.
Gopal had remained absent in his office without permission from February 3, 2014 to Aparil 3, 2014. Before joining, Gopal Das had submitted a certificate and other documents that were related to his treatment for bipolar affective disorder at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. He also had urged his higher authorities to consider his absence from service as leave (EL), informed Behera.
Gopal’s request to resume work was accepted and he was allowed to join duty, Behera said while replying to questions of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Narasingha Mishra and BJP MLA Subash Chandra Panigrahi in the House.
Behera also said that Gopal once again remained absent from work without getting the necessary permission from March 1, 2015 to June 27, 2015. He, later, submitted his fitness certificate and other documents pertaining to his treatment for bipolar disorder and again sought permission to join duty which was accepted by the higher authorities.
The minister also said that between 2014 and 2022, Gopal Das had sought leave on 41 occasions. Among the reasons he gave was treatment of his wife and brother. Behera also said that Gopal never requested for transfer from his police station at Brajarajnagar.
