Bhubaneswar: Governor Raghubar Das dissolved the Odisha Legislative Assembly Monday, a notification issued by the Parliamentary Affairs Department of Odisha Government read.
The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in virtual mode earlier today, recommended to Governor Das to dissolve the Assembly, a day before the counting of votes in the state for simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
Monday was the last Cabinet meeting of the fifth term of the BJD government in the state.
Official sources said the dissolution of the Odisha Assembly was the only agenda item of Monday’s Cabinet meeting.
Odisha went to the polls in four phases starting from May 13 to elect 147 Assembly and 21 Lok Sabha members.
In the last Assembly, the ruling BJD had 114 members, the BJP had 22 members, and the Congress had a strength of nine members. Both the CPM and an Independent candidate had one member each in the Assembly.
