Govt awards 11 farmers for innovative farming

Bhubaneswar :  State government Sunday awarded 11 farmers with ‘Mukhya Mantri Abhinav Krishi Yantrapati Samman’ recognizing their innovation in agriculture.

Under the ‘Mukhya Mantri Abhinav Krishi Yantrapati Samman scheme of the state government, 90 farmers — who use innovative methods of farming — are selected from 30 districts of Odisha with three farmers from each district.

The top 11 farmers are selected from the 90 for innovations in farming process and are awarded with cash prize of Rs 2 lakh for first position, Rs 1.5 lakh for second position and Rs 1 lakh for third position. While three farmers received the first prize, three others received second prize and remaining five received the third prize.

Various workshops had been conducted by the state government earlier to apprise farmers about the scheme which was launched last year. More than 2000 farmers had submitted their applications under the scheme in the last five months.

The 90 enterprising farmers were selected after a thorough scrutiny of the applications. All of them are entitled for district level awards of Rs 15,000 each for implementation of new and innovative methods in agriculture.
