Govt hospital sweeper stitches patient’s wound in Angul; video goes viral on social media

Angul: Reflecting utter neglect in healthcare, a sweeper working at Purunakote government hospital in Angul was seen stitching wounds of a patient Wednesday, in the absence of trained medical personnel.

A video captured on a mobile phone while he was conducting the minor surgery has gone viral on social media.

According to a source, a daily wager named Arjun Behera was engaged in the construction work of a bridge at Satkosia area. He sustained injuries at the construction site when an iron rod pierced through his leg.

Later, Arjun was rushed to Purunakote hospital by his co-workers.

Doctors and paramedical staff were reportedly not available at the hospital at the time when Arjun reached there for treatment.

The sweeper attended the injured worker instead and stitched his wound after cleaning, as was seen in the viral video.

This incident has raised the eyebrows of many local denizens.
