Bhubaneswar: After the police issued notices to some BJP leaders regarding a murder case in Ganjam, the party leadership in the state has accused Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of misusing the police for political vendetta.
BJP state spokesperson Samir Mohanty Thursday held a press conference to speak about the police notices issued to party leaders, and the naming of their leaders in other cases ahead of the elections.
Mohanty said, “The Chief Minister has kept the law aside and is acting like Dristrashtra of Mahabharata. He is exposing his two-sided face. There was no name of BJP leaders in the interim charge-sheet of the police in Ganjam district’s Laxmidutta murder case, but through the Home department the CM is trying to trouble our party leaders.”
“The people have given the party a sense of change in elections. So the Chief Minister has vowed to trouble BJP leaders ahead of elections. He is misusing the Home department. This is nothing but vengeance,” he added.
He also accused the government and the CM of shielding tainted leaders and their kin in other criminal cases and targeting the BJP.
He said, “But the situation is different in the case of BJD. In Jajpur, former minister Pranab Kumar Das’s relative who was held in a case of assault on women is roaming free. In the case of gangster Tito, the BJD is slowing down progress.”
The spokesman also said that the BJD is mired in controversies like the chit fund scam and alleged that the party fought the 2009 elections with the chit fund money. He also said that in 2014 the party promised to give justice to the victims of the chit fund scam, but betrayed the people.
