Bhubaneswar, August 16: In a bid to popularise science education at the school-level, the state government has asked all districts to ensure participation of students of all government and aided schools in activities held to popularise and improve science education.
As part of the activities under the Popularisation and Improvement of Science Education in Schools programme, one student each from junior and senior groups from all districts will participate in a state-level quiz. Two students will be selected on merit basis from the senior science quiz, and will go on to participate in the Eastern India Science Fair.
Further, the state-level observation of Mathematics and Science Day will be made with the students and teachers at their level on designated dates. The district-level officials will initiate the observance at the local level.
In the junior Science and Mathematics Olympiad examination, only the students from government and aided schools will be eligible to appear. One student from each block of every district will be selected and will be awarded a certificate of merit.
In the Science exhibition, districts having more than ten blocks will send six projects each selecting a particular theme while other districts will send five such projects each in the same manner. On the basis of this process, merit list of the students will be prepared by the state officials and awards will be provided to them.
An officer-in-charge of Science who will prepare block and district-level activities will be deputed at each block. The concerned officer will prepare the activities while district education officers will monitor the process.
