Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Authority (STA), Odisha has decided to relax the norms on High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) for new vehicles by a month, an official said. A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of STA with the vehicle manufacturers and dealers here Monday.
The relaxation is given keeping in view the festive season like Dusshera and Diwali when people purchase new vehicles, the STA official said.
In a letter to all Regional Transport Officers (RTOs), the STA said that the regulations for affixation of HSRPs on new motor vehicles were scheduled to be enforced from September 30, but it has been relaxed till October 31.
“It is noticed that vehicle manufacturers have not established adequate embossing stations across the state for affixation of HSRPs on new motor vehicles sold for which dealers are not able to deliver the vehicles to the purchasers in time by affixing HSRPs,” the STA said in the letter.
Considering difficulties faced by vehicle purchasers, manufacturers and dealers regarding affixation of HSRP on new vehicles before delivery during the ensuing festive occasion, it was decided that on behalf of the purchasers, the dealer will file an application before the Registering Authority.
In the application for registration of new vehicle the dealer will give an undertaking that he will get the HSRP affixed in place of non-HSRP number plate within 30 days from the date of registration, the letter to RTOs said.
The dealer can deliver the vehicles only after allotment of registration number by affixing non-HSRP number plate between October 1 and October 31 only as on time basis, it said.
If the dealer fails to replace the non-HSRP number plate with HSRP number plate within 30-days then steps will be taken for cancellation of the trade certificate of the dealer, the STA added.
