Gudvela: Some government-provided Class III and Class V books were found strewn behind the Community Education Department Office building here, leaving locals perplexed.
The academic year is coming to an end but there are many students who are yet to get government-supplied text books. Some ‘Jana Ajana’ books meant for Class III and ‘My English Book’ for Class V were lying scattered at the rear side of the education office building. This triggered resentment among locals.
Students are forced to take old books and sometimes they are even denied government books on the pretext that the books are out of stock. “The students are not getting books when they need them. On the other hand, the same books are found discarded after getting eaten up by white ants in the office almirah,” they alleged.
The locals, however, were clueless as to who threw the books and from where did they come.
When contacted, Block Education Officer Akhila Deep said he was out of station. He would inquire into the matter on his return. Assistant Block Education Officer Shridhara Behera said the books were old ones. As new books have arrived and the almirah had no space, he had asked the school peon to throw away the books.
