Govt to assess damage in Southern district due to incessant rainfall

Bhubaneswar: With the low pressure-induced heavy rain leaving a trail of destruction in the South Odisha districts, the state government has decided to conduct a survey to assess the extent of damage.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi Friday said a preliminary assessment of the damage is underway.

“After an improvement in the weather condition, different teams will conduct house-to-house survey to assess the actual damage. The affected families would be provided with financial assistance in accordance with the norms of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF),” he added.

Though the rainfall has considerably subsided in the last 24 hours, road communication in several places in these districts remains disrupted.

In Rayagada district, 24 villages in Niyamgiri block has been cut off due to landslides in Niyamgiri hills.

Similarly, road connectivity issues continue to bother commuters at most places in Malkangiri district though the water level of the major rivers has drastically come down.

With Hati, Tel and Sardul rivers swelling, people in Kalahandi districts are in a state of panic.
