Govt to bring in Act to streamline rituals at Lingaraj Temple

Bhubaneswar: To streamline management of Lingaraj Temple here, the state government will bring in a legislation in line with Shree Jagannath Temple Act 1955 soon.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting under the chairmanship of Law Minister Pratap Jena here Tuesday in the wake of disruption in rituals at Lingaraj Temple last week due to a rift between two sections of servitors.

The law department will initiate steps for reconstitution of the Trust Board through Endowment Commissioner. An expert committee will be formed to draft the bill.

The government would also take steps to remove encroachments around the temple and will facilitate construction of a market. It was also decided to reconstitute the Trust Boards of Maa Tarini Temple, Ghatgaon and Khirachora Gopinath, Remuna.

Jena asked Baripada sub-collector to hand over Baripada Jagannath Temple’s maintenance work to ASI besides regularization of all encroached land parcels of Endowment Commission. An official website of the temple and health insurance for priests at the Baripada temple will be done in a month, he said.
