Bhubaneswar, Dec 15: The state government has set a target to complete procurement of kharif paddy by end of January, 2015, food supply and consumer welfare minister Sanjay Das Burma said after reviewing the progress in this regard Monday.
“The state has procured around 25 lakh quintal of paddy in 12 districts across the state. The government today (Monday) started procurement of paddy through market yards in four other districts. The government has also developed an action plan to complete the procurement process by January-end,” Das Burma said.
The minister directed the officials concerned to check whether farmers are getting the fair price and make regular field visits to stop distress sale of paddy.
According to the paddy procurement polity, the government has aimed at collecting 44 lakh tonne paddy this year. So far, about 18,54,000 quintal and 5,37,000 quintal paddy were procured in Bargarh and Sambalpur districts respectively.
