Anandapur: In an effort to push faster development of gram panchayats (GPs), the Anandapur block administration in Keonjhar district has decided to award Rs 10 lakh to the GPs which complete projects on time. The administration has laid stress on quick execution of projects in the health and sanitation sector. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting here Friday.
In the presence of people’s representatives, the administration reviewed developmental and welfare projects in 18 panchayats. They also discussed progress of projects and schemes related to agriculture, education, health, fisheries and animal husbandry, ICDS, rural water supply and sanitation, rural electrification, social welfare, forest and lift irrigation in 2017-18 and 2018-19.
People’s representatives expressed concern over lack of road connectivity to Lathikata. A directive was issued to the authorities concerned to build a road to the Anganwadi centre.
It is learnt that two agencies have been supplying sattu to all Anganwadi centres over years. All the people’s representatives have unanimously decided that the food stuff being supplied to the Anganwadi centres should be checked. MP’s representative Debapriya Patra has proposed to change the food supplying agencies every two years.
The meeting also underscored the need for hastening the distribution of mosquito nets in the malaria-prone areas. All were informed that the fund for Bhagwat Tungis has been raised from Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000.
All the people’s representatives were told that their panchayats will be awarded Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh each if their projects are executed in time with valid documents proving their completion.
The BDO directed officials of the department to ensure successful implementation of social welfare and security programmes in panchayats.
