Gramarakhi held for taking Rs 50k from murder accused

Kalahandi: Police Friday arrested a Gramarakhi in Dharmagarh area of Kalahandi district for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 from persons accused of murder.

According to sources, Gramarakhi Akshaya Durga had taken the amount from six persons who were earlier detained by police in connection with a murder case in Bhairi village August 19.

Assuring the suspects of settling the probe, Akshaya had demanded Rs 50,000 stating that the money will be shared with all police officials, added sources.

The matter came to light after two of the suspects detained in the case were arrested. Following which the family members of the arrested had lodged a complaint against Akshaya.

Based on the complaint, police initiated a probe and arrested Akshay. Meanwhile, Akshay has claimed that sub-inspector KP Pujhari had asked him to collect the money.
