Bhubaneswar: Odisha grapplers performed splendidly to win 13 medals including nine gold, three silver and a bronze medal in the National Grappling Championships which concluded Sunday at Nashik.
On the last day of the competition, Odisha grapplers won seven medals in the G1 fighting event. Among them were five gold medals, one silver and one bronze medal.
In the below 56kg girls’ 16-17 years category Anuska Priyadarshini clinched a gold medal while Mamata Sahool bagged the yellow metal in the below 49kg girls’ 18-19 years age segment.
The other gold medal winners were Monali Sahoo (57kg, girls’ 14-15 years), Radhakanta Sethi (58kg boys’, 16-17 years) and D Bhagaban Reddy (below 49kg, boys’ 16-17 years).
Dinesh Puni Lenka settled for a silver medal in the below 59kg boys’ 14-15 years age category while Subhakanta Biswal secured the third position in the above 60kg boys’ 12 years age segment.

Two players from Odisha have been selected to the Indian team against Nepal for a one-off kho kho Test match to be played at Patna, June 1. They are Jagannatha Murmu and Bharat Kumar Pradhan. Both the players have been selected in the Indian team on the basis of their consistence performances in different national and state level tournaments.
