Groom runs away from own wedding

Soro (Balasore): In a bizarre turn of events, a groom had to run away from his own wedding, while on the way to the bride’s house amid a grand procession in Soro area of Balasore district late Tuesday night.

The incident has become the talk of the town. This not only left the bride and her family members in a state of worry and social stigma, but created uproar in the village. Irate bride’s kin, caught hold of the groom’s people and thrashed them blue and black for the inconvenience in the last minute of the wedding.

 

After thorough probe, it was learnt that the groom had indeed escaped from his own wedding to evade police arrest. Sources said, the groom had cheated on a girl and was marrying another one.

Acting on a complaint of the victim girl, police had come to arrest the groom, forcing him to ran away from his own wedding. The bizarre incident has been reported from Jagannathpur village under Basudevpur police limits.

The groom has been identified as Jitendra Nayak.

 

According to sources, Nayak had lured a girl of the locality into a relationship and outraged her modesty on the false promise of marriage. However, he later ditched her and was going to marry another girl.

After coming to know of his betrayal, the victim lodged a complaint against Jitendra at Basudevpur police station alleging that the latter has betrayed her after maintaining physical relationship and assuring to marry her.

 

Acting on the FIR, the police had gone to arrest the Jitendra last night. Knowing this, the groom got off the car and ran away from the wedding procession.

As soon as the news surfaced, the bride’s family detained two members of the groom’s family who had already arrived at the wedding the venue by that time. The marriage was later called off.
