Group clashes erupt in Balasore, Sec 144 imposed

Balasore/Remuna:  At least 10 persons were injured as clashes broke out Tuesday night between two groups during Remuna Mahotsav in the district.

According to reports available, tension escalated after two youths of Ginipur village misbehaved with a girl near a cycle stand and in retaliation youths of Mandarpur village equipped with deadly weapons attacked them. Seeing the altercation, people present at the function were gripped by panic and they started running in different directions increasing the chaos.

The Mahasabha Committee members tried for an amicable settlement by asking the two groups to have a discussion, but the efforts failed.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC were issued at the place after the clash. To avoid unwanted incidents, five platoons of police forces have been deployed at the spot.

The injured ones have been admitted to the Remuna community health centre for treatment. On the other hand, police have ordered closure of shops and markets from Gopinath Temple area to Remuna, as a part of precautionary measures.
