Keonjhar: A cultural troupe from Baruch district of Gujarat performed Sidi Goma, one of the folk dances performed in Africa, at the recently concluded ‘Adirang Mahotsav’ at Keonjhar town and won hearts of art lovers and common people alike.
This troupe along with many such ones took part in the national tribal festival ‘Adirang Mahotsav’ organised by National School of Drama. However, Sidi Goma stole the show.
This African folk culture was brought to India long years ago and this tribal art form coming down from forefathers is still alive among the Sidi community of Bharuch district.
Over the years it has been counted amongst the numerous tribal dance forms in India. Its uniqueness lays in the performers’ costume, their body movement and of course the music. Mugurban Dhamasa, Musindo, Tasa, Mainmishra and Nafil are the musical instruments that evoke a feeling of being amongst the tribal people surrounded with jungles.
This troupe keeps visiting festivals and events. And wherever they perform, they take the stage by storm. So far they have visited Germany, Switzerland, Paris, Russia, France, Australia, Dubai, Singapore and Africa.
Imran Sidi, the group leader, expressed happiness that their dance form went well with the audience. “Our dance form is well appreciated by audience. Apart from performing at some prestigious events like Hockey World Cup 2017, Commonwealth Game 2010 and Olympics, we have also showcased our art form at several reality shows such as ‘India’s Got Talent’ and ‘Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega’ and well appreciated,” he informed.
