Bhubaneswar: A gun dealer from West Bengal who came here to sell his wares was arrested Sunday by the police near Kolathia field under Bharatpur police limits. The accused has been identified as Babujan Khan, 23, who is resident of West Medinipur district in West Bengal. Police have seized two pistols and 10 round bullets from the accused. A case (No. 315/21) has been filed against him under the Arms Act.
Police officer Jyoti Ranjan Pati said that Babujan had recently brought the guns and ammunition from West Bengal and wanted to sell them in the capital. He was staying at his cousin’s house in Pipili for some time now.
“Further investigation is on to ascertain whether the accused has been to Bhubaneswar in the past and whether he has managed to sell the stuff. We are trying to find out more about his customers,” said Pati.
According to sources, at around 12 noon Sunday, locals spotted the accused Babujan carrying a gun near the Kolathia field. They reported the matter to the Bharatpur police station. Police arrived at the scene and surrounded Babujan and nabbed him even though he tried escape. Locals also helped the police in catching the accused.
